The Law of the Seed - Andrew Matthews

The first book I ever wrote was a children’s book. I have heard that getting a book published can be tough, so I got the addresses of sixty children’s publishers, made sity copies of my manuscript and sent them all over the world.

I felt really smart! I thought, “Worst case scenario I will get fifty rejections and then choose from the rest.”

Guess how many rejections I got! Sixty-One!! One publisher wrote to me twice!

So I wrote another book and sent that one out to publishers.
Eventually someone said, “Yes!”

If we really want to make something happen, we usually need to try more than once.

It is a principle of nature.

Let’s say an apple tree bears five hundred apples, each with ten seeds, We might say, “That’s a lot of seeds! Why would you need so many seeds to grow just a few more trees?”

Because most seeds never grow.

In your life this principle might mean:
You’ll need to attend twenty interviews to get one job.
You’ll interview forty people to find one good employee.
You’ll talk to fifty people to sell one house, car, vacuum cleaner, insurance policy, idea.

And you might need to meet a hundred acquaintances to find one special friend.

When we understand the “Law of the Seed”, we stop feeling like victims. We don’t get so disappointed.

The laws of nature are not things to take personally. We just need to understand them – and work with them.

Wow, I LOVE Andrew Matthews!
